Week 2- 28/10

During my second week of the challenge, I shifted my attention from hyperfocus on the thing I was depriving myself from- chocolate and sweets, to recognising the need for an alternative product that would substitute my cravings. As someone who often prioritises convenience over complexity in food, I have grown out of the habit of extensively researching the food I am consuming. However, in this case, I recognised the need to conduct a considerable amount of research to reach a viable solution to my temporary problem. As Solomon () says, our decisions are likely to be extended when we are highly involved, therefore, as I felt the  absence of  sugar in my diet more and more, I was more willing to commit more time and effort into problem-solving.  I recognised this decision-making process as an opportunity to discover and try new, healthier products that contain natural sugars and that could become permanent substitutes for processed sugar in my diet. Due to my interes...

Week 1- 19/10

During the first week of the challenge, I focused on refining my goal and observing the subsequent effects of the changes in my behaviour. Firstly, I made my goal more specific by deciding to track my sugar consumption and ensure I stay on track. Upon further research, I decided to aim to consume approximately 45 grams of sugar a day. Although this is slightly higher than the recommended amount for women, it is still a significant decrease from my previous intake and it would make a considerable impact on my daily routine (Healthline, 2021). Secondly, I also chose to pay more attention on how my perception of different food products has been changing since making this consumer behaviour alteration. Perception is the process of acquiring, interpreting, selecting and organising sensory information (Grohol, 2005). As Solomon et al. () note, there are three key stages of the perceptual process that are all activated by certain outside factors. While I did not notice any considerable ...

Introduction- 16/10/21

Working a 9-to-6 job and being exposed to personal and professional stress and anxiety has often made me resort to sugary foods as a form of comfort or an extra energy boost. While I am a firm believer that eating everything in moderation is the best way to stay healthy while also enjoying your life, I think that reducing the amount of sugary foods I consume will have a positive impact on my overall health. Not only that, but minimising the amount of dairy milk chocolate I purchase is going to take me one step closer to leading a more sustainable, plant-based lifestyle. For the next two months, I will challenge myself to minimise my consumption of products containing an excessive amount of sugar and plastic packaging. I will allow myself to purchase treats occasionally and only if they are vegan and clearly marked as sustainably sourced. I'm hoping that this little change in my consumer behaviour will make me less reliant on sugar and much healthier, while also making a positive...
